Born in 1959, Kibbutz Matzuva, Israel. Currently lives and works in Herzliya. Orit Hofshi is an internationally recognized printmaker and mixed media installation artist, known for her exploration of the human condition and the consequences of both historical and contemporary conflicts. Her work delves into the complexities of human existence, reflecting on the interplay between nature’s sublime forces and the fallout from social upheavals.
Artistic Themes and Approach:
Hofshi’s art often addresses the shared human experience, transcending nationalism and sectarianism. Her haunting landscapes, filled with ruins and forlorn figures, convey both the darkness of past turmoil and the potential for renewal in an uncertain future. Through her large-scale works, she captures humanity’s capacity for both violence and resilience, combining emotional depth with an exploration of natural and societal forces. Using materials like wood, paper, and ink, Hofshi creates imagery that contrasts solid and liquid elements, darkness and light, to evoke powerful emotions and reflections on shared struggles.
